Summertime is here.
It’s that time of year to enjoy road trips with the family, sunshine by the pool, and afternoons at the ballpark.
It’s also a great time of year to do some reading. Ideally, outdoors with a cold beverage nearby.
As we kick off the summer months, I have three book recommendations for you.
The Latest from Sports for the Soul
I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t first recommend my latest book in the Sports for the Soul series, THE MENTAL SHIFT.
This inspirational golf novel follows a PGA Tour player as he tries to make an improbable comeback after a freak accident. It culminates at the U.S. Open, which just so happens to take place on Father’s Day Weekend every year.
In other words, not only is this inspirational read ideal for the summer months, but it also makes a great Father’s Day gift for the dads in your life.
(Side note: I want to sincerely thank all of you who have already purchased THE MENTAL SHIFT and left reviews about it. Reviews are so crucial for an author and I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to leave some of the overwhelming reviews I’ve read for this book! If you haven’t left one on Amazon, you can do so at this link. Even a short one makes a big difference. Thank you for your help!)
A Nonfiction Book That Will Inspire
I’ve been reading the brand-new book by Shawn Achor, THE POWER OF BELIEFS, and it is incredible. I feel like I’ve been underlining half the book for later reference.
Achor is the bestselling author of The Happiness Advantage and he’s one of the leading voices in positive psychology today.
This new book, THE POWER OF BELIEFS, is not your typical self-improvement book. You won’t find any generalized, wishful concepts. Everything he writes about is backed by the latest scientific research and some of the results he shares are amazing.
As I was reading about the proven mental, physical, and financial results that follow simple shifts anyone can make in the way they’re thinking, I kept asking myself, “Why isn’t everybody doing this?”
This book is perfect for coaches, teachers, and leaders who want to see their teams improve performance. It’s great for pretty much anyone with a desire to be happier and more successful.
I highly recommend this one!
A Fiction Book That Will Thrill
I’m also a big fan of action thrillers.
I love an action-packed story where good conquers evil, justice prevails, and heroes have to overcome great odds with incredible grit and courage.
I find a good thriller not only to be a fun beach read, but also inspiring. The right thriller can be good for the soul.
I recently came across A DANGEROUS MAN by Robert Crais and it is one of those books that grabs you from the very beginning and doesn’t let go. I couldn’t put it down.
To be clear, if this book were a movie, it would be rated R for violence and language, and it has nothing to do with sports or the motivational fables that I write, but if you’re looking for a fun crime thriller, I was very impressed with this one.
How About You?
I’m always looking for new book recommendations. Do you have one you would recommend to me?
They can be thrillers, nonfiction, motivational sports books, whatever.
I love hearing from my readers, so please don’t hesitate to email me your recommendations at info@sportsforthesoul.com.
Thank you!
