“If you’re bored with life, if you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things—you don’t have enough goals.”
– Lou Holtz, National Champion Football Coach
In the classic bestseller Psycho-Cybernetics, Dr. Maxwell Maltz pointed out that human beings are designed to strive for goals.
“When man is functioning as a goal-striver, he tends to feel fairly happy, regardless of circumstances,” Maltz wrote.
This truth always stuck with me and Lou Holtz’s quote above reinforces the point.
Whenever life gets tough and disappointments come your way, one of the quickest ways to shift your perspective from negative to positive is to start focusing on goals that excite you.
Start visualizing your dreams coming true and thinking of ways to accomplish your goals. Keep those dreams and goals at the forefront of your mind. This will give you a natural surge of hope and enthusiasm.
If you’re not happy and excited about life, you need to reevaluate your goals. Perhaps you need to remind yourself of goals you’ve lost sight of or perhaps it’s time to come up with some new, bigger dreams that excite you.
Regardless of what is going on around you, when you shift your focus to goals you are excited about, you’ll start feeling happier and more energetic. Try it and see.
Stay focused on your dreams and goals.
